Save and back up your work

Crevano saves your projects into this browser automatically as you work, so nothing is lost if you close the tab. That is convenient, and it is not a backup. The backup is the .crev file you save yourself.

Save a .crev file

  1. Press ⌘S. Or open the File menu and choose Save.
  2. The first time, your browser asks where to put it. Pick somewhere you will find it again — your documents folder, a cloud drive, a memory stick.
  3. From then on, ⌘S writes straight back to that same file. No dialog, no second copy.

To save a copy somewhere else, or under another name, use File → Save as… (⇧⌘S) and leave the format on Crevano project (.crev).

What a .crev file is

It is your project, not a picture of it. Every photograph, every word, every layer, every page size and margin — all still separate, all still editable. Open it again in a month and carry on where you stopped.

It is also plain, readable JSON underneath. That is deliberate: a file you can still open in ten years is worth more than a clever one.

> Note > Saving a picture is a different thing. Download a picture… and Print produce a > flat image for looking at and sharing. Only a .crev file can be reopened and edited. Save > both — the picture for the world, the .crev for you.

Change your default format

Settings in the left rail has Default save format. Leave it on Crevano file (.crev) unless you have a good reason — that is what ⌘S writes.

Make Crevano keep a copy on disk for you

On Chrome or Edge you can point Crevano at a folder, and every change is mirrored there as an ordinary file — automatically, with no button to remember.

  1. Go back to your gallery.
  2. Click the button in the header that reads Projects: browser only.
  3. Choose a folder and allow access.

The button then reads Projects: <your folder>, and each project is written there as its own .json file. Because those are real files, they survive a cleared browser cache — which the browser copy does not.
